Bears of Brooks

It's the iconic scene, one that's been seen before, but never bores. How could it? With sometimes upwards of over fifty bears in the tight bend of Brooks River, it is one of the top prime locations to view, learn, and photograph bears. This was taken from the Falls Platform in Brooks Falls in Katmai National Park. Almost in an assembly line, some bears wait their turn to fish. The dominant bears collect their spots early and feed until they need a nap. Some bears will fish the lip or top of the falls, where the salmon jump to get to the upper river and into Brooks Lake to spawn. Every year I have gotten to travel to this magical place, I always spend time with my camera down, in pure amazement that it exists.
