Moose Smooch

Another epic adventure image from Denali National Park and Preserve. I was at Riley Creek Campground, at the entrance of the park. Every year, some cow moose linger around the entrance of the park and the front country with their new calves. I had driven all around that day, hoping to see some. I got back to the campsite in the late afternoon and decided I would try again in the morning. With that thought, I saw movement in the forest. I immediately grabbed my dog and got into my Jeep. We watched the cow moose emerge with her little twin calves. They were just figuring out their legs and surroundings. I photographed from my Jeep, and this was one of those moments I watched happen and couldn't believe it. I try not to check my camera right after I photograph something in the wild. It lets me focus on the now and what else is around, versus potentially missing new opportunities. This interaction, I couldn't help but make sure I captured. With delight, I was almost shaking seeing one of the calves licking the other. Every time I see this image, I smile and I love how often it gives others grins as well.
