Dare to Compare

After getting back from Kaktovik, I was ecstatic to review the images I was able to take there of the bears. Many brought back smiles from just the luck and opportunities I had. This image always made me sit back in awe. To think this polar bear is sitting behind a bowhead whale skull. It's fascinating to me to compare the mass and size of the whale to an adult polar bear, which is also large. With the winds bringing water in a direction to flood Barter Island, the bottom of the bone pile was under water. I still can't get over the amazing opportunities this provided, along with the unprecedented perfect weather.
