Cook Inlet

At 3:40 PM, with the sky setting up for a promising sunset, my son and I jumped in the truck and headed to Point Woronzof Park. We found a quiet perch and watched as sea ice drifted with the tide. The air was a mild 28°F with a soft breeze. As the sky ignited in shades of orange, the water near the foreground glowed a vibrant blue—almost tropical, like a reef in the Bahamas. In February, that kind of illusion feels like a warm escape in the heart of an Alaskan winter.
