Egg-Cellent

A main focus for me has always been on bears. I enjoy watching their playful nature, their interactions between them, and their ability to catch salmon. This location in the heart of Southeast Alaska, black bears and brown bears share the river. Multiple species of salmon navigate their way upriver, and both species of bear utilize this salmon honey hole to fatten up for summer. Some years I waited days for the water level to decrease enough for bears to fish, and other years the salmon pool so tightly the bears don't really even need a strategy or luck to catch their next meal. I named this particular bear Chomp. She would catch the salmon and then reposition her teeth's grip on the fish, exposing the original puncture holes. In this particular instance, as soon as she repositioned, eggs came popping out of the hole. I admire the contrast of the darker bear and background with the bright orange eggs and shiny marbled exterior of the salmon.
